This myth is simple, that open layer targets work
well with broadheads. The truth of the matter is that open layer
targets are the worst choice for broadheads. The reason is
simple.
Sheets of foam, when cut by broadheads, turn into smaller
pieces immediately, and when you pull your broadheads out the
slivers come with them. The result is a target that cuts up
faster. In the graphic below you can see our Compound King
compared to a popular open layer target. They are the same size,
and both were shot with 30 arrows from 20 yards with Phat Head
broadheads from a PSE X Force set at 70 pounds.
While open layer targets work well with target points, you can see what
happens with broadheads.
I will not trade a penny of profit for a customer's satisfaction. Our
broadhead targets will out perform any open layer target when shot
with broadheads...period.
And if you want to shoot our broadhead targets with target points
simply apply Scorpions Venom arrow lube to your arrow and they will
pull easily. We do not recommend using field points with our broadhead
targets with out arrow lube.
The next time you see an ad with a bunch of "celebrity
hunters" telling you how great open layer targets are for
broadheads...think of this webpage and tell your buddies about the
open layer myth!
